JREY® town planning services were proud to collaborate again with Kieron Gait Architects to obtain development approval for this brand new home in the bayside suburb of Wynnum within the Traditional Building Character overlay.
The proposal sought to construct a new two storey + roof deck dwelling house located on a vanct site. This modernised take on a traditional “timber and tin’ Queenslander home strongly reflects architectural elements of the unique housing style of the nearby streetscape.
Adapting with the Queensland climate and bay area, its design incorporates resort style structural elements and embraces tropical vernacular and sustainable living by providing multiple outdoor spaces including a roof garden, multiple outdoor terraces, courtyard and pool area.
With an emphasis on experiencing outdoor living near the Wynnum esplanade, the proposed rooftop terrace features a viewing deck which faces the northeast to provide an optimal view of the nearby Moreton Bay islands.
The architectural style of the proposed development comprises traditional characteristics of a Queenslander with a contemporary approach. The proposed materials to be used reflect these traditional elements, consisting of light coloured masonry juxtaposed with operable batten screening to the ground floor, while distinguishable to the upper level with lightweight external walls with expressed studs, external shutters, casement windows, vertical balustrade to front balcony overlooking the street and metal eaves gutter and roof.
